Breitenhagen, Germany

After a dike breach of the Elbe near Breitenhagen, southeast of Magdeburg, large areas were flooded. The German government called in Van Heck to pump the flooded areas dry as quickly as possible.

Van Heck deployed several large temporary pumping installations for this. Thanks to our extensive pump fleet and quick deployment, a large pumping capacity was realized on site within a short time.

Large pumping capacity for emergency situations

To drain the flooded area, a combination of different pumps was used:

• 6 × HK700 pumps
• 3 × HK500 pumps
• 1 × HK250 pump
• over 800 meters of piping

By combining different pump capacities and piping routes, the water was efficiently discharged from the flooded area.

Quick action during emergencies

In the event of a dike breach and large-scale flooding, every minute counts. Thanks to available capacity, short lines of communication, and experienced specialists, Van Heck was able to quickly respond to the German government's request for help.

The pumps were deployed on short notice to carefully pump out the affected area and limit further damage from prolonged flooding.

This project in Breitenhagen is a clear example of the role that temporary pumping installations in emergencies and floods can play. When regular water drainage is no longer sufficient, Van Heck can rapidly scale up with large pumping capacity and complete temporary water displacement systems.
