Temporary firefighting water supply for Gasunie at the Maasvlakte
Reliable firefighting water capacity during maintenance
During maintenance work on the existing firefighting system of Gasunie at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam a temporary solution was needed to ensure the availability of firefighting water. Van Heck provided a complete temporary firefighting pump installation to replace the existing system during the work.
At an industrial location like the Maasvlakte, a reliable firefighting water supply is essential. The installation needed to not only provide sufficient capacity but also immediately respond when the pressure in the firefighting water system drops.
Powerful pumps and high-pressure piping
For this project, a complete installation was built with:
- 2 × SC200/500 – 600 kW
- 200 meters of high-pressure piping
- 3 × electric booster pumps
- 1 × generator
The combination of powerful pumps and electric booster pumps ensured the necessary water pressure and capacity. The system was set up to function reliably during the entire maintenance period.
Automatic start in case of pressure drop
An important part of the installation was the automatic start system. As soon as a pressure drop in the firefighting lines was detected, the temporary pump installation started automatically.
This ensured that the firefighting water supply remained continuously available without manual operation being necessary. This is crucial at an industrial location where fire safety and operational reliability are central.
Tested and controlled monthly
To guarantee operational reliability throughout the deployment period, the installation was tested monthly under the supervision of the client. During these tests, it was checked whether the pumps and the automatic start system were functioning correctly.
Thus, the temporary firefighting water supply remained not only available but also demonstrably operational.
Temporary solution with maximum reliability
The project at the Maasvlakte shows that a temporary pump installation is more than just placing pumps. By carefully coordinating capacity, pressure regulation, automation, piping, and monitoring, Van Heck realizes a reliable temporary solution for critical industrial facilities.
Temporary firefighting water supply when continuity and safety leave no room for compromise.
