Weir renovation with siphon system and road span

Maintain water flow during construction work

For the replacement of a weir in the river Meijel , Van Heck faced an interesting challenge. The weir was located directly next to a campsite, and during the work, not only had to be the water flow ensured, but also the accessibility of the campsite had to be maintained.

For our engineers and technicians, this meant a project where technology, environment, and practical feasibility had to be closely aligned.

Two siphons of Ø1000 mm

To divert the water in a controlled manner during the work, a temporary siphon solution consisting of:

  • 2 × siphon Ø1000 mm
  • Road span

The siphons provided the necessary water displacement, while the road span ensured that the access road to the campsite remained available during the work.

Silent solution for a busy environment

Because the campsite remained open during the work, noise pollution and accessibility were important focus points. A conventional pump installation would have been less suitable here.

By using a siphon system the water could be moved very energy-efficiently and quietly. In combination with the road span, a practical solution was created with minimal disruption for the environment.

Technology adapted to the environment

This project demonstrates that a temporary water diversion is not only about capacity. The environment, accessibility, noise, and feasibility also play a crucial role in choosing the right solution.

The combination of two large siphons and a road span allowed the weir to be safely replaced while maintaining the water flow and accessibility of the campsite.

A smart combination of siphon technology and customization, with minimal disruption for the environment.
