Temporary pump installation for LNG Terminal

Extra capacity for an LNG installation

Due to a sudden strong increase in demand for LNG there was a shortage of available capacity at an existing installation. At the same time, parts of the installation were out of operation due to renovation work. To ensure the continuity of the process, Van Heck was engaged for a temporary pump installation.

The solution enabled the supply of large quantities of cooling water from a nearby power plant . This cooling water was used to safely warm up liquefied natural gas (LNG) and convert it back into natural gas, after which the gas could be supplied to the Dutch gas network again.

High capacity and precise process control

For this project, high demands were made on both the required water flow and the working pressure. Therefore, Van Heck developed a combined pump installation that offered maximum capacity and operational reliability.

The installation consisted of:

  • 2 × HK800 pumps
  • 3 × AFP600 pumps
  • Manifolds
  • 3 × FO containers

The electric booster pumps were combined with two powerful HK800 pumps. This configuration made it possible to accurately achieve the required pressure and flow while being able to flexibly respond to process demand.

Temporary solution, continuous process

The temporary installation was used as long as the existing installation was not fully available due to renovation work. Thanks to the flexible pump configuration, the required cooling water capacity could be reliably delivered without shutting down the LNG process.

This project demonstrates how Van Heck with temporary pump installations and custom water displacement can contribute to the continuity of critical industrial processes. By cleverly combining different pump types and drives, we realize solutions for situations where capacity, pressure, and operational reliability are central.
