Stabilizing water level in extremely low water.

Pumping water back for irrigation during prolonged drought

Due to persistent drought and extremely low water levels, the availability of fresh water in the polder area was under pressure. To keep enough water available for irrigation and ensure the safety of fruit cultivation, water had to be actively pumped back into the area.

Van Heck provided a temporary pumping installation that could maintain the water level in the polder at the desired level. This ensured sufficient irrigation water and prevented drought damage to the crops.

Solution

With a temporary pump installation, water was redirected from the main water system back to the polder area. The installation operated fully automatically and ensured a reliable water supply during the dry period.

Thanks to the quick deployment, the water level could be stabilized in time, and the irrigation capacity for fruit cultivation was guaranteed.

The water levels in the polder remained stable, ensuring that fruit cultivation had sufficient irrigation water even during the dry period. Serious yield losses and drought damage were prevented.


Particularities

The Netherlands is traditionally designed to drain excess water. However, during prolonged drought, the opposite challenge arises: retaining water and reintroducing it into the system where necessary.

In this project, a temporary pumping installation proved its value once again. By acting quickly, enough water was supplied to mitigate the effects of the drought and secure the harvest.
