Hollandse Kust West Beta: high-pressure pumps for cable trenching

Cable installation for offshore wind

During the construction of the Hollandse Kust West Beta platform, Van Heck supported the contractor in the installation of export cables in the North Sea. The offshore transformer platform is located approximately 53 kilometers off the coast of Egmond aan Zee and serves as an important link in connecting Dutch offshore wind farms to the Dutch high voltage grid.

High pressure for cable trenching

A cable trencher was deployed to bury the export cables. Using water jetting, the seabed around the cable is loosened so that the cable can be buried at the correct depth in a controlled manner.

During the first few hundred meters of the cable route, the trencher could not yet draw in seawater directly for the jetting process. Therefore, Van Heck provided three temporary high-pressure pumps to continuously supply the trencher with the necessary water pressure and water capacity.

This allowed cable trenching to be carried out reliably immediately after the start, without interrupting the installation process.

Temporary pump installation for offshore wind

For this project, Van Heck provided:

  • 3 × high-pressure pumps
  • Temporary high-pressure water supply
  • Pump technology for the jetting process
  • Technical support for demanding offshore wind project

The temporary pump installation was tailored to the specific requirements of the cable trencher and the conditions at sea. This allowed the contractor to keep the required water pressure continuously available during the cable installation process.

Reliable pump technology for cable installation at sea

The installation of export cables for offshore wind farms imposes high demands on equipment and operational reliability. An interruption in the jetting process can directly affect the progress of the cable installation project.

With reliable high-pressure pumps for offshore applications, Van Heck supports contractors in complex cable installation and wind energy projects at sea.

This project at Hollandse Kust West Beta demonstrates how temporary pump technology plays a key role in the construction of the infrastructure needed for the energy transition.
